Avalara Webinar – Sales Tax on Services – May 23, 2017

Over the last decade, more and more states are legislating that businesses charge sales tax on more and more services. With the dramatic increase of the sales of services over tangible goods, cash-strapped states are looking for more and creative ways to get their share of the revenue. Knowing which states have taken the approach of taxing more services is important to understand and a major topic of Avalara's upcoming Thought Leadership Series webinar: Sales Tax on Services.

Knowing what gets taxed and what goes tax free is half the battle. Our partners at Avalara are hosting sales tax guru, Scott Peterson, to break down new rules and demystify issues that many companies struggle with:

  • The different ways that states tax services
  • The different ways that states tax services
  • Which states that have increased their tax bases

I hope you’ll join us at the presentation “Sales Tax on Services” to discover the what, where, and why of sales tax on services.

Microsoft Dynamics GP vs. QuickBooks

Are you outgrowing your traditional accounting software? For small businesses, traditional accounting software like, QuickBooks, can slow you down in a variety of ways. QuickBooks is a great, entry-level accounting solution, however, as your business grows, QuickBooks will most likely be unable to grow with you. QuickBooks has limited scalability and requires manual processes, resulting in downtime and obstacles for your business instead of paving the way for success. Microsoft Dynamics GP is capable of handling extremely large data sets with millions of records and hundreds of thousands of transactions being processed at the same time by multiple users.

Dynamics GP is a complete mid-market Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) solution that can be hosted on the cloud or on your own, on-premises server. Trusted by over 50 thousand companies, Dynamics GP is secure and scalable, combining years of innovation and the agility needed to compete in today’s market. Microsoft Dynamics GP is valuable because it allows you to see patterns and predict trends in real time.

People who use Microsoft Dynamics GP work within a role center that is personalized to fit how they like to do their job. Rather than combing through endless data, they see views that are filtered to the context of the tasks that they are working on. This reduces the number of steps it takes to perform daily business processes. Dynamics GP provides hundreds of predefined built-in reports that help you make decisions faster, increasing productivity and efficiency throughout the office.  Ultimately, Microsoft Dynamics GP is quick to implement and easy to use, with the power to support your growth ambition.

Microsoft Business Forward Roundup | Digital Transformation

Wednesday, May 3 2017 – Microsoft Business Forward featuring Microsoft CEO, Satya Nadella; Corporate Vice President, James Phillips; and Executive Vice President, Judson Althoff

Microsoft Business Forward featured multiple keynote speakers who discussed Dynamics 365 and how the new solutions and features can help businesses and employees work more efficiently. Intelligent selling through the Microsoft Relationship Sales solution was announced, bringing LinkedIn Sales Navigator and Dynamics 365 for Sales together in a single offer. The conversation also centered largely on digital transformation and how it impacts organizations, spanning all industries, around the world.

Improving sales with Dynamics 365 and LinkedIn Sales Navigator

Dynamics 365 for Sales is already helping salespeople with improved experiences. For instance, they can already work on sales data and surface actions directly within Office 365 to more quickly close a deal. Quotes can be created using customer insights, accurate pricing and inventory data, and then recorded in the appropriate system, including any custom discounts offered, and sent to the customer – without ever having to leave Outlook.

Microsoft announced a new integration with LinkedIn that will help salespeople deliver better outcomes using insights from LinkedIn Sales Navigator and LinkedIn’s 500 million professionals. Sales Navigator with Dynamics 365 will dramatically increase the effectiveness of salespeople be tapping into their professional networks and relationships, giving them the ability to improve their pipeline by:

  • Leveraging signals across email, CRM and LinkedIn to get contextual recommendations for the next best action within Dynamics 365 for Sales, facilitating introductions directly through the company’s network, and sending InMail, messages and customized connection requests
  • Engaging buyers with tailored content throughout the account life cycle, and getting account and lead updates including news mentions and job changes
  • Building strong relationships with existing contacts through access to LinkedIn profile details including photos, current roles and work history.

We’re making it easier for customers to take advantage of this solution by introducing a single offer that brings together LinkedIn Sales Navigator and Dynamics 365 for Sales at about half the cost of competitive solutions in the market, available in July. Digital Transformation

Helping society move forward is deeply grounded in Microsoft’s mission of empowering every person and every organization on the planet to achieve more. Satya Nadella, Microsoft CEO, affirms companies succeeding at digital transformation are becoming more engaged with their customers, empowering their employees, optimizing how they run their business operations, and are transforming the products and services they offer using digital content.

The dimensions aren’t new, but what has changed is the role that systems of intelligence now play, providing better insight from data and converting that into intelligent action. Becoming more engaged with customers includes predicting what customers want before they know they want it, based on data intelligence, and offering it to customers in a way that’s natural.

Empowering employees is a fundamental part of digital transformation. Organizational analytics lets you discover knowledge and insights that exist inside your infrastructure and provides information to what is going on in your organization. Which brings forth another one of Nadella’s pillars of digital transformation: optimizing your business operations. It’s not enough to know what’s happening now in your business, you have to anticipate what will happen, then be prepared to capitalize on that insight.

Microsoft and BCS are part of the Solution Against Cybercrime

“Microsoft is a game-changer in terms of the fight against cybercrime” - Noboru Nakatani, Executive Director of the Interpol Global Complex

Bond Consulting Service’s Vice President of Sales and Marketing, David Gersten, attended an exclusive visit on campus at the Microsoft Executive Briefing Center, as part of the Voices for Innovation Advisory Task Force, to discuss cyber-security, digital privacy, and outdated laws with other Microsoft partners and Microsoft Senior Executives. Voices for Innovation supports and advocates for public policies that promote choice, innovation, and economic development for businesses and the greater technology industry.

The unprecedented scale and sophistication of modern cyberthreats, combined with the rapidly disappearing IT perimeter, means that while preventing an attack from becoming a breach is ideal, it is no longer realistic. Microsoft proactively monitors the threat landscape for those emerging threats, to help better protect their customers. This involves observing the activities of targeted activity groups across billions of machines, which are often the first ones to introduce new exploits and techniques that are later used by other attackers.

The biggest challenge for businesses today is protecting customer trust. Cybercrime involves government and businesses being hacked, emails being compromised, and intellectual property being stolen. Microsoft created the Digital Crimes Unit to investigate and fight cybercrime. They use the Microsoft cloud to visualize information so they can track down criminals. Analysis that previously took days to run, now is seen in real time thanks to Microsoft’s Advanced Analytic tools. Microsoft is building what we learn back into the cloud to make people and organizations safer. When it comes to the Cloud, trust and security are paramount. Microsoft is passionate about making life harder for cybercriminals and making it safer for businesses and their customers.

President and Chief Legal Officer for Microsoft Corporation, Brad Smith, quoted: “People will not use technology they do not trust. And they will not use technology they do not understand. Our ability to innovate therefore depends on maintaining a greater level of transparency.”

VP of Sales and Marketing, David Gersten, at the Microsoft Envisioning Center in Redmond, Washington.

Microsoft Dynamics GP Roadmap

Last month at the 2nd annual GPUG Amplify conference, Microsoft released a Roadmap for the future of Microsoft Dynamics GP, depicting the enhancements and the most recent changes. The Roadmap highlights the many years of success and functionalities that Microsoft has had since deploying Microsoft Dynamics GP. Improvements to Dynamics GP have included upgraded architecture, refined user interface to match the Microsoft Office user experience, expanded ERP and accounting functionality, and cloud capabilities.

Dynamics GP was originally developed by Great Plains Software. Dynamics Release 1.0 launched in 1993, and was one of the first U.S. accounting packages designed to be multi-user and to run on Windows as 32-bit software. In late 2000, Microsoft announced the purchase of Great Plains Software for $1.1 billion. This acquisition was completed in April 2001. Since then Microsoft has invested heavily in the further development of Dynamics GP. Today, Dynamics GP is delivered to over 48,000 customers through a network of more than 1,500 partners worldwide, each with unique industry expertise and knowledge of local needs.

Microsoft Dynamics GP seeks to help customers reduce the cost and complexity of growing their businesses by increasing productivity with great end-user experiences customized for each user; streamlining business processes through automation and efficient management tools; and by enabling new ways of working through secure collaboration and shared business processes between companies and their suppliers, customers, and partners. To better serve the needs of small and mid-sized business customers, Microsoft also supports a vibrant partner ecosystem that serves customers in specific industries and geographies. Lastly, Microsoft helps Dynamics GP customers derive maximum benefits from the Microsoft Cloud for business propositions.

#FabrikamDay

#FabrikamDay is a celebration of the Dynamics GP sample data, implemented by Microsoft in 2007. When Microsoft changed the name of the GP Sample Company, they also set the Sample Company date to April 12, 2017. This date is known in the Dynamics GP community as Fabrikam Day. The extensive network of Dynamics GP users, celebrates the global community of Customers and Partners who use Dynamics GP every day to improve their business processes.
